Greta Neimanas

Greta Neimanas, who grew up participating in adaptive sports programs at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC), was inspired to take up competitive cycling after seeing it at the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens, Greece, which she attended as part of the Paralympic Academy Program, a grassroots education and outreach initiative of U.S. Paralympics. Within a year of starting her competitive career, Neimanas was invited to a U.S. Paralympics National Team camp in November 2005 in Chula Vista, Calif.

In 2006, Neimanas graduated from Whitney M. Young Magnet High School in Chicago, where she was the captain of her varsity soccer team.

Neimanas started her freshman year at the University of Indiana in the fall of 2006, but stayed only one semester after being granted the opportunity to become a resident athlete at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She made the move in January 2007 and resumed her coursework at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs in addition to her training. The following summer, Greta traveled to Beijing to compete in her first Paralympic Games.

Along with cycling, Neimanas enjoys skiing, kayaking, wakeboarding and photography.
