Allison Jones
As a one-legged cyclist, Allison Jones has learned the fine art of balance: juggling two sports while completing her college degree. Both a Paralympic cyclist and skier, Jones’ trip to Beijing in September of 2008 marked her fourth Paralympic Games. Jones did not leave empty-handed, as she finished second to teammate Barbara Buchan in the women’s individual time trial (LC3/LC 4/CP3) to win the silver medal. At the 2010 UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships, Jones captured the gold medal in both the individual time trial (C2) and the individual road race (C2).
Jones was born without a right femur. When her family moved from Texas to Colorado, she began skiing at age 5. She was racing by the time she was 8 years old, working up through Winter Park’s renowned disabled program and reaching the U.S. Team by the 2001 season.
Nicknamed "Jonezy," she graduated from Denver University in 2007 with a degree in mechanical engineering. She was the recipient of the Pioneer Award, which is the highest achievement an undergraduate can receive.
Jones collects Coca-Cola bottles from around the world and enjoys packing and unpacking her bags for all of her skiing and cycling trips.
