Lantz Lamback
Lantz Lamback has found success on the international level in the short-distance freestyle events, winning bronze in the 50m and 100m events at the 2004 Paralympic Games and then earning silver in both events at the 2006 IPC Swimming World Championships. He also earned bronze medals in the 100m backstroke and 4x100m medley relay at Worlds and his four total medals made him the most decorated U.S. men’s swimmer at the event. At the 2010 IPC Swimming World Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands Lamback earned a silver medal in the 50m freestyle and two bronze medals in the 100m freestyle and the 100m backstroke.
Lantz Lamback began swimming when he was nine years old through an able-bodied club team and competed in his first meet for swimmers with physical disabilities when he was 14. He went on to his first junior national meet in 2000 and set his first American record in 2001.
Lamback was attending classes at Augusta State University in Augusta, Ga., before making the decision to move to Colorado Springs and train full-time at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in November 2007. The move paid huge dividends for Lamback, who won four medals in Beijing, including his first-ever gold medal.
