Steven Cash

As an infant, Steven Cash was diagnosed with cancer in his right knee area and underwent amputation surgery at age three. Missing part of his leg, however, never deterred Cash from getting involved in hockey.

At the 2008 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships, Cash led Team USA to a bronze medal by posting a 1.50 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage. After starting in all 16 games in the 2007-2008 season and being named the 2009 Paralympic SportsMan of the year, Cash entered the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver as the number one goaltender for the U.S. Team.

During the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games, Cash had four straight shutouts and 33 saves and was named top goaltender by the tournament's directorate.

Cash in currently enrolled at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and has coached USA Sled Hockey Player Development Camps in 2007 and 2008.

When asked who the most influential person in his life is, Cash says, “My parents, who fought by my side through the years that I was going through treatments and surgeries. There was never a night they left me alone in the hospital while I was battling cancer…they have shown me that every person has flaws; all that matters is how you turn those weaknesses into strengths.”
