"Golden" memories await

by Susan Katz / February 11, 2010

With more than half of the national team living and training in my home town of Buffalo and the Vancouver Paralympic Winter Games just around the corner, there are a lot of things to be excited about. Our national team won an award for 2009 U.S. Olympic Committee Paralympic Team of the Year with our gold medal performance in last season's world championships.

And, our goalie Steve Cash also won an award for 2009 USOC Paralympian of the Year. I have to say the award couldn't have gone to a better kid. Steve is not only widely regarded as the best goaltender in the world but he is also a great person and teammate. We are also going into the final stretch run with a lot of confidence after winning the past few events. But before any of us get too excited, there is still a lot of work to be done.

From February 13-21 we have our last camp in Rochester before we go compete on the big stage. This is going to be one of the hardest skating camps that I have ever been through and to be honest, I'm kind of excited about it. I mean, sure when we are giving it all we have during conditioning drills and whatever else the coaching staff throws at us we are going to be tired, sore and just plane worn out. But, when we get back to our hotel rooms and get in bed we can all go to sleep knowing that we are another day closer to hopefully one of the best moments with some of the best memories we will all have for the rest of our lives!!!

A week after camp we leave for Colorado Springs for team processing to get all of our Team USA gear, and from there we head to Vancouver. Where we can hopefully bring home some "golden" memories.
