Day 3 - Sept. 16

BEIJING, China - In today's women's epee category B tournament, Andrea DeMello (New York, N.Y.) was eliminated in preliminary pool play to conclude her competition at the Games. The four-time Paralympian competed for Brazil in 1996, 2000 and 2004 before coming to the United States.

DeMello lost 0-5 overall, but managed to score touches in all but one of the bouts. The closest match-up of the morning was with Italy's Rosalba Vettraino, who narrowly won the bout 5-4.

"I had the best time and it was a wonderful experience despite the results," said DeMello. "I did better than I expected against Italy. I was only one touch away, I almost got her. It's hard to describe the emotion I feel. I am done here, but I will continue to train for London."

A total of ten events will be contested in wheelchair fencing by the conclusion of the 2008 Paralympic Games tomorrow, with 84 athletes from 19 countries competing in individual categories A and B of men's foil, epee and sabre and women's foil and epee.
