2008 PARALYMPIC GAMES: U.S Men's Goalball Team Outscores Iran 4-3

by Amy Rohlfs - U.S. Olympic Committee

(Beijing, China) - U.S. Men's Goalball Team outscores Iran 4-3 in a "must win" game.

The first half of the game was played by Tyler Merren (Kalamazoo, Mich), Chris Dodds (Logan, Utah) and Donte Mikens (Tallahassee, Fla.)   Eddie Munro (St Augustine, Fla) was brought in as a substitution during the first half to stabilize the defense.

The accuracy of the throwing by the team from Iran enabled them to lead in the first half 3-1.  A penalty created by the U.S. Team allowed Iran to score another point.

However, once the defense was stabilized, the U.S. had the opportunity to score, putting pressure on the other team to play better defense.

"As the team stabilized the U.S. was able to hit the gaps and score," said U.S. assistant coach Michael Lege, "In the second half the defense took over to win the game."
