Colorado Springs, Colo. - The 2010 U.S. Paralympic Track Cycling National Championships kicked off Saturday July 24, at the 7-Eleven Velodrome.  A total of 24 athletes participated in the first day of competition which included pursuit qualification and finals.

In the women’s pursuit finals Greta Neimanas (Colorado Springs, Colo.) took gold with a 98.6%.  The silver medal went to Allison Jones (Colorado Springs, Colo.) with a 103.3%, and Barbara Buchan (Bend, Ore.) was the bronze medalist with 105.5%.

Clark Rachfal (Annapolis, Md.) and pilot Dave Swanson (Tucson, Ariz.) were the gold medalists with a 102.3%.  Will Chesebro (Goleta, Calif.) took home silver with a 106.4%, followed by Sam Kavanagh (Bozeman, Mont.) with bronze with a 106.4%.

Rachfal was proud of his gold medal finish and said “with more dedicated track practice our times will improve even further.  The main goal is to break the 4km world record.”  Rachfal is pretty confident of Swanson’s and his ability to do this, mostly because they “have all the support needed from family, coaches, and friends.”
