Warrior Games presented by Deloitte

Wounded servicemen and women will competed in the inaugural Warrior Games, presented by Deloitte, May 10-14, 2010, through a joint effort between the U.S. Department of Defense and U.S. Olympic Committee. These games were part of an effort to inspire recovery, capitalize on physical fitness, and promote new opportunities for growth and achievement.
The events were shooting, swimming, archery, sitting volleyball, cycling, track, wheelchair basketball, discus, and shot put. In addition to winners in each event, there was an "Ultimate Champion" competition that featured service members competing in a series of five events and service team scoring for a rotating Chairman's Cup, which was won by the Marines.
The initial Ultimate Champion trophy was awarded to Dan Hathorn (Navy), but due to a naming error that was not caught by coaches or administrators in the Ultimate Champion competition at the 2010 Warrior Games, a second Ultimate Champion award is being presented by the U.S. Olympic Committee to Jeff Martin (Marines). Given the intent and spirit of the Warrior Games and in recognition of their outstanding performances, we congratulate both of the individual top finishers, Jeff Martin and Dan Hathorn.
The Warrior Games help elevate abilities through athletic competition for wounded, ill, and injured service members, by providing a focal event to empower the incorporation of athletics into military wounded warrior programs. The Warrior Games served as an introduction to Paralympic sports for injured service members, while at the same time building camaraderie and raising awareness of Paralympic sports.
